QUALIFICATIONS

This program is only open to members of a historically underrepresented group in the general, company, and stage management fields of the theatre industry. In particular, BTSD is programmed for black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) applicants.

  • Open to applicants that are 18 years of age or older

  • Open to applicants that have recently graduated, or will be graduating from an undergraduate program in 2024.

  • Open to applicants who identify as mid-career transitioning professionals

  • This is not a program geared towards graduate students.

  • Must be seriously interested in a career in stage management, general management, or company management.

  • This is not a program for actors, directors, designers, or other creative theatre-makers.

  • Must be available for the below dates:

    • 3-4 virtual sessions (dates TBD) ahead of the In-Person Week 

    • In-Person Week in New York City: March 16th - March 22, 2025

  • Personal Statement: In a single page, share an experience that shaped your career path in theatre and explain what drew you to this specific program. Be sure to elaborate on your career goals and which BTSD track you are interested in (general management or stage management).

  • EDI Statement: In a single page, please answer one of the following prompts. Please note which prompt you will be answering at the top of your response:​       

    • As an aspiring manager, what are your future goals related to promoting DEI in theater? What impact do you hope to have on the theater community or what changes do you hope to see in the theater community?​​​

    • Whether you have direct management experience or not, think about environments where you have felt included or excluded. How would you create an inclusive environment for a cast and crew as a stage manager or company manager? Provide specific strategies and actions you would take.

  • Contact information for Two (2) Professional or Academic References that can speak to your work ethic and career aspirations

    • Examples include college professors, intern directors, job supervisors, guidance counselors.

    • Should not include personal references, such as family members, classmates, roommates, etc
