WHAT IS BEYOND THE STAGE DOOR?

Beyond the Stage Door (BTSD) is a 501c3 nonprofit founded by the folks at Baseline Theatrical. BTSD is a comprehensive and intensive educational program designed to educate, empower, and prepare undergraduate students or mid-career transitioning professionals from diverse backgrounds for careers in general, company and stage management. In particular, BTSD caters to BIPOC (black, indigenous, and people of color) individuals.

BTSD was founded as a direct response to industry discussions, led by the BIPOC theater community, about long-standing racial disparity in both commercial theater hiring practices and traditional pathways to New York theatrical management careers. Our aim is to empower cohort members to forge those pathways and open doors into the industry.

WE ARE ACCEPTING PARTICIPANTS WITH TWO FOCUSES TO CHOOSE FROM:

GENERAL / COMPANY MANAGEMENT and STAGE MANAGEMENT

  • This program is only open to members of a historically underrepresented group in the general, company and stage management fields of the theatre industry. In particular, BTSD is programmed for individuals who are members of racial and/or ethnic minority groups.

  • Must be seriously interested in a career in theatre management.

    • This is NOT a program for actors, designers, directors, or other creative theatre-makers.

  • Must either have recently graduated from college/university, be a matriculating college junior or senior or be a mid-career transitioning professional.

  • This is not a program geared toward graduate students.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older to apply.
